Conventional Religion, Christianity, and the Aryan Way
(pdf)

°°°°°

We reproduce here chapter 13 from Myatt’s 1990s, and neglected, tract The Complete Guide to the Aryan Way of Life . The chapter deals with the difference between “the Aryan way” and Christianity and contains some interesting insights.

Myatt’s idealistic and at times polemical tract begins with the statement that

“To be Aryan is to be of Aryan descent and to uphold and follow the Aryan way of life. The decadent and ignoble way of life which exists today in all nations is the total opposite of this Aryan way of life.

An Aryan is someone who behaves and thinks like an Aryan; someone who upholds and who lives, day after day, by Aryan customs and who is aware and proud of their Aryan culture and heritage. Above all, an Aryan is someone who judges everything by Aryan standards, and who strives to do what is Aryan.”

Myatt goes on to state that the Aryan way is the way of Honour, Loyalty and Duty, and that

we use the term Aryan instead of “White”. White refers just to the colour of the skin; Aryan refers to our culture, our heritage, our character, our Aryan way of life.

A true Aryan is much more than just a “White” person: a true Aryan is a White person who has an Aryan character; who has an Aryan “soul”. A true Aryan is a White person who behaves, who thinks, who lives, like an Aryan: that is, in accord with our own Aryan traditions, our own Aryan heritage, our own Aryan way of life.

An Alien View of Planet Earth

Earth From Space

°°°°°°°

Editorial Note: This historically interesting article was first published in 2001 on a now long defunct website devoted to promoting David Myatt’s “Folk Culture” philosophy. It also appeared on a Myatt “fan website” an archive version of which website exists and which archive version was used as our source. The article is historically interesting for two reasons. First, it seems that his “Folk Culture” philosophy became part of Myatt’s strategy to bring radical Muslims and National Socialist inclined nationalists together {1}; and second, that the numinous intuitions behind that “Folk Culture” philosophy were as we now understand {2} a precursor to Myatt’s ‘numinous way’, morphed as that ‘numinous way’ later was into his post-2012 philosophy of pathei mathos.

It should be noted that all the examples of human behaviour recounted in the article occurred in real life and were documented in mainstream media sources.

We have corrected a few typos in the archive text, altered the typographical layout, and converted the Julian date used by Myatt to the Gregorian date.

An Alien View of Planet Earth

What opinion would an alien – a space-traveller from a distant starsystem – form of the peoples of Earth were this alien to land here, and travel from country to country? This alien is a shapeshifter, and so is capable of assuming any form, including human form. Thus can this alien watch and observe, without being seen.

Let us assume that this alien is highly intelligent, and that, like all the sentient beings on the alien home-world, this alien is rational and civilized: that is, polite, well-mannered, fair, honourable, self-disciplined, and possessed of a scientific-like curiosity.

During the travels of this alien, the following are among the many, many things observed:

* In a city, a gang of youths drag a young girl off a bus while other passengers, including men, look mutely on and do nothing, despite her pleas. The gang take her to an alley where she is gang raped.

* A fireman, risking his own life, enters a blazing building to rescue an unconscious man.

* In one family home, a large quantity of left-over food is thrown away, while on almost the opposite side of the world, a mother gives her starving children what little food she has, going hungry herself so that her children may eat.

* A man stuffs three newly born kittens into a plastic bag which he firmly ties closed, then throws into the nearby canal.

* Outside a noisy party in a house, a young man is attacked by four other men, who, having pushed him to the ground, repeatedly kick his head until he is dead. They then run off, laughing.

* A man driving a motor-car fast on a narrow unlit country road hits a pedestrian who is hurled several feet into the air and who lands on the road, critically injured. The car driver carries on as if nothing had happened.

* A woman, arguing with her husband in their home, suddenly grabs a large kitchen knife and stabs her husband to death.

* A young man, walking home from work over a river bridge, sees someone struggling in the water below, and without hesitation dives in to pull the person to safety.

* A truck load of cattle arrive at a slaughter-house, where each one is killed, strung up on large hooks, and butchered, with various bits of their bodies thrown into various bins.

* A truck load of chickens arrive at another slaughter house where each one is killed, strung up onto a conveyor belt which takes them to an assembly line where their heads are cut off, one after the other, by rotating blades.

* Outside a small mud hut, a family sit silently on the parched drought-striken land, having eaten nothing for days.

* In a city at night in winter, a very well-dressed and corpulent man in an expensive car drives past a railway viaduct which shelters several homeless people huddled up against the cold. Nearby, two other homeless people lie stupefied on the ground, one stupefied from drugs, the other from alcohol.

* An elderly infirm man, sitting in his damp apartment, surrounded by mementoes from his past including several war medals gained for gallantry, is repeatedly punched by an intruder who wants to know where the man has hidden his savings.

* A group of men dig with their bare hands for a whole day without rest in order to find and free someone trapped under rubble following an earthquake, while others generously give what little money they have to help others who have nothing. Nearby, a young man, thinking himself unseen, steals some goods from what once was a shop.

* A young woman, recently qualified as a Nurse, sits – restraining her tears – by the bedside of an elderly lady terminally ill with cancer, holding the old lady’s hand while listening to stories of things that happened a long time ago…..

For a while, all these impressions perplex our alien. There is kindness; terror; brutality; compassion; indifference; hatred. And many other things. The alien briefly wonders if human beings, as a species, are divided in themselves, like the werewolves of human myth were divided, becoming savage, killing, beasts on certain nights, and yet at other times appearing quite normal, quite human.

But, slowly, the alien begins to understand the human condition. There is a covering, a very thin covering, of civilization, as there are some people who do use their will to control themselves and so live their lives by reason and some code of ethics. Thus it is that these humans strive to do, to enjoin others to do, good deeds, as they strive to restrain themselves and others from doing what is bad. But there are other human beings, many other human beings, who cannot or who will not control themselves, and who live according to their emotions, their instincts, just as the thin covering of civilization can be easily broken by some natural event, some great surge of emotion, some sudden occurrence.

The alien understands the struggle there has been on the planet the humans call Earth for civilization: the slow ascent up from their primitive, savage, animal ancestry, and how this ascent is of the proverbial two steps forward, one and three-quarters steps back, kind, and sometimes even of the one step forward, two steps backwards kind.

The alien understands how tenuous is the human hold on civilization, on reason, and how so few humans truely live rational, moral, lives where they strive to control themselves – and succeed in controlling themselves – by using their will. For the alien has found:

* people addicted to drugs, pleasure

* people immoral – no self-control and no ethics to guide them

* people live for the most part based on their feelings, their emotions, and not based on reason and self-control

* people squabbling like undisciplined, emotive, children, and injuring and killing each other for very little reason

* people keeping and slaughtering animals wholesale for food when there is no longer a need for many of them to do this

* massive, polluted, teeming cities which remind the alien of termite mounds

* the Earth itself ravaged, exploited, and polluted because of the irrational, destructive, desire people have for luxury, for convenience: putting their own temporary personal needs before the planet itself.

The conclusion the alien reaches is that human beings resemble an infection which has spread over the Earth, making the Earth ill, and decimating the other living beings which live on the Earth.

The conclusion is that the majority of the peoples of Earth are essentially barbarians – in effect, still primitive animals, driven by animal desires and feeling. Even though many of these barbarians live in what seem to be well-functioning, prosperous, cities and towns, surrounded by material goods, they are nonetheless still barbarians by nature, and often by intent.

The alien further concludes, that there is a good probability that in a few centuries time, the covering of human “civilization” will vanish, with a widespread return to a savage barbarism, and with humans themselves becoming extinct in a few tens of thousands of years.

So it is that the alien departs from our solar system, leaving space-markers advising other star-travellers to avoid the homeworld of the savages who roam the planet those humans call Earth.

One Insight: Honour And Beauty

One Insight: Honour And Beauty

Here, an insight: Honour creates Beauty – and it is beauty that I desire: to be surrounded by beauty, without and within. Our modern world is ugly: it has made ugliness into an art, a business, a cult and a way of life.

Our environment is for the most part ugly; the attitude of many, many people is ugly – concerned as they are for the most part with mundane things, with profane things, and all to ready and willing as they are to do what is not honourable: to gossip, to be petty, to put their own ego, desires, before what is honourable, and subsumed as they often are with the ethos of ugliness that pervades our modern world. They do not feel beauty; they do not desire beauty; they are, for the most part, content to live, breathe, desire, be part of, the ugliness of the modern world and its dishonourable way of life. For instance, most of the music, the “entertainment”, the art, of this modern world is ugly; the buildings, the cities, the towns, are ugly.

There are a few places where beauty lives, today: A concert, perhaps, where sublime, numinous, music presences for an instant what elevates us beyond ourselves; a woman of empathy, whose face, whose eyes, whose manner, radiates both a warmth and a reminder of our own fragile humanity. A sunny day in Spring or Summer in rural England or Germany when, atop some hill, ones sees, feels, senses the connexion that we are with all life and especially with the ancient land of our ancestors. A simple shared and wordless moment when two lovers become one, through their uncomplicated loyal love, through the immediacy of a shared momentary experience… But these are isolated, increasingly fewer, incidents, among the tawdriness, the urban sprawl, the egotism, the obsession with materialism, the dishonour, the disloyalty, the profanity, the commonness, of modern life.

Beauty is not the norm – the ideal, the archetype, the goal – as it can and should be.

Why do I admire – why have I steadfastly admired, for thirty-five years – National-Socialist Germany? Because I found, and find, in it an intimation of beauty – a desire to bring beauty, joy, back into the lives of ordinary people; a desire to raise them up from the ugly. And what was wonderful, inspiring, remarkable was that this was done within the confines, within the constraints, of a modern nation with its cities, towns, industries: and that it involved all of the people, not a minority, not an elite. National-Socialism was a means whereby the beautiful could be felt and known – a means whereby beauty was once again presenced in the lives of ordinary people. A means whereby a connexion was made to those things which can and do elevate and evolve us, and which thus create an inner beauty. This is the simple, profound, beautiful message of National-Socialism.

How did those National-Socialists do this? Through honour; through duty; through loyalty, through understanding the importance of beauty and of our connexion, through our folk and homeland, to Nature.

So many lies have covered this beauty; so many lies to try to distance us from that truth; so many lies to try and prevent us from seeing, understanding, striving to follow, that beautiful, inspiring, example. And yet – the truth lives; the beautiful, numinous, archetype is there, and will always be there so long as some of us remember, and recount to others our remembering.

Republished here is Part One of David Myatt’s three-part autobiographical notes titled Towards Identity and the Galactic Empire, in which part he provides an informative overview of his three decade long career as a neo-nazi activist.

Originally written and published in the 1990s, on the now defunct ‘geocities’ DM Homepage fan-site, it was revised by Myatt in 2003 during his now notorious campaign to bring neo-nazis and radical Muslims together in order for them to fight their “common enemy”. {1} We have slightly changed the original formatting to make the item more pdf friendly, and provided a link to an archive version of the original article.

The Theology of National-Socialism
An Examination of National-Socialism, Christianity and Islam

David Myatt: The Theology of National-Socialism
(pdf)

The essay was written by David Myatt in 2003 during his campaign to bring National Socialists and Muslims together in order to fight what he perceived as their common enemy; that is, the Zionist State that occupied Palestine, and Zionist influence as manifest especially in the American government with their military, economic, and financial support of the Zionist State, and with their foreign policy of invading Muslim lands such as Afghanistan and Iraq. {1}

The essay was subsequently circulated by Reichsfolk – and by others, for example it appeared on the Историја и култу forum of the Srbija section of the Stormfront website in July 2003 – and built on and to some extent developed the ideas Myatt had expressed in his voluminous 1990s National-Socialist writings and pamphlets and which ideological writings, {2} many of which were published by George Dietz in his Liberty Bell journal, were described in an article about Myatt in the July 2000 issue of the anti-fascist Searchlight magazine as a revisionist version of Nazism.

As with those National-Socialist writings the essay was ideological and idealistic with Myatt attempting to provide some philosophical foundations for his vision of a modern and “ethical” National Socialism. It should be noted that since some of the writings Myatt references in his footnotes – such as Acausal Science: Life and the Nature of the Acausal and Surreal Science – are no longer available we have provided links to archive versions.

Given below are some quotations from Myatt’s essay.

Quotations from Myatt’s Theology of National-Socialism

Introduction

It is my view, which I have expounded in various writings, that National-Socialism is a complete and unique Way of Life – or Weltanschauung – with its own ethics, based upon the ideal of personal honour, and with its own Theology, based upon what I have called “The Cosmic Being”. This Being is not the same as the God of Christianity, nor the Allah of Islam […]

In many ways, my National-Socialist writings have evolved National-Socialism itself, presenting it as a complete Weltanschauung, and freeing it from the misinterpretations and anti-evolutionary concepts of the past […]

The Origin and Meaning of Life

The essential starting point for a Way of Life is to pose, and answer, the questions about the origin and meaning of life – or, more specifically, about our lives, as human beings on this planet we call Earth […]

For National-Socialism, the meaning, the purpose, of our lives is to further evolution: both our own, and that of our folk […]

The Cosmic Being

One crucial difference between Islam and Christianity is the concept of incarnation – of the supreme deity being, or possibly being, incarnate in the world, and in human beings. According to Islam, Allah is not and never can be incarnate in His creation: He is totally separate from, and totally untouched by, all Creation […]

Both Allah, and God, are regarded as being infallible, and perfect: completely evolved, and not subject to change.

In contrast, the Cosmic Being of National-Socialism is regarded as the Cosmos in evolution, with Nature representing one manifestation, one incarnation, of the Cosmic Being on our planet, Earth. Thus, the Cosmos Being is not complete, not perfect – but an evolving, changing, being – just as we ourselves are the Cosmic Being in evolution, and just as Nature is this being in evolution. That is, there is a symbiotic relationship between us, as individuals, as members of our folk, between us and Nature, between us and the Cosmic Being, and between Nature and the Cosmic Being. Nature is also a being: that is, some-thing which is alive, which changes […]

Prophets and Revelation

Both Islam and Christianity are revelatory religions, or Ways of Life. That is, they accept that Allah, and God, have sent Messengers and Prophets to guide us, and reveal truths, such as about how we should live, and what our laws should be. Thus, both Muslims and Christians accept that we must turn to a supreme being for guidance, for the final answers, for the truth […]

For National-Socialism, there is no revelation from a supreme being, and thus no belief in Prophets or Messengers, and no Holy Books. There is only a reasoned apprehension, an acceptance that our human nature depends upon being civilized, that is, upon us accepting the ethics of honour, and the idealism of loyalty and duty to our folk, Nature, and the Cosmos. National-Socialism accepts that we – as Aeschylus wrote – learn through the experience of suffering […]

The Ethics of Honour

The foundation – the essence – of National-Socialist ethics is the ideal of personal honour, manifest in a Code of Honour. Honour is accepted, by National-Socialists, as the foundation for their ethics because honour is regarded as one of the those qualities which make us human, and which enable us to achieve both excellence (arête, for the Ancient Greeks) and further evolution, for ourselves and our folk […]

The Concept of the Folk

The folk is considered, by National-Socialism, to be a manifestation, a presencing, of Nature, and thus represents Nature and the Cosmos in evolution. National-Socialism regards every individual as balanced between the past of their folk, and the future of their folk, and considers that their duty is to aid this folk, and thus Nature, in an honourable way.

National-Socialism conceives of our folk as a type of being – that is, it is a type of life, with its own character, nature, ethos. The health and welfare of this living being depends on us: on what we do, or do not do […]

Conclusion

It should be clear that there are fundamental, and irreconcilable, differences between National- Socialism, Islam, and Christianity. National-Socialism, as I have stated, is a complete Way of Life – independent from, and different from, other Ways […]

David Myatt And Reichsfolk

°°°°°°°°°

David Myatt

David Myatt

°°°°°°°

David Myatt And Reichsfolk

One question which we at Reichsfolk have been repeatedly asked since 2000 ev – and especially since 2012 ev – is why we publicize and use the National-Socialist writings of Mr Myatt given his conversion to Islam in 1998 ev and then his post 2012 ev development of his "philosophy of pathei-mathos" with his condemnation of German National Socialism and of Adolf Hitler.

Our answer, pre-2012, was always along the following lines:

° That, in our opinion, his NS writings – such as those in the pdf collection the Selected National Socialist Writings Of David Myatt – are among the best modern writings about National Socialism and cement his reputation as “England’s principal proponent of contemporary neo-Nazi ideology and theoretician of revolution.” [1]

° Because even during his decade as a Muslim he not only such wrote gems as (i) Esoteric Hitlerism: Idealism, the Third Reich and the Essence of National-Socialism, and (ii) National-Socialism, Folk Culture, and a Muslim Khilafah (pdf) but also embarked upon a campaign to bring National-Socialists and Jihadi Muslims together in order to fight their common “Zionist” enemy. [2]

To which answer we, post-2012, have added the following:

° That we consider that he has in the words of JR Wright in her article One Man Above Time: David Myatt, Reichsfolk, Esoteric Hitlerism, and Savitri Devi (pdf) moved from living a practical “in Time” life to one that is totally “above Time”. [3]

° That in the context of Reichsfolk – with its emphasis on new, local, leaderless, folk communities as opposed to the concept of The State, and with the Reichsfolk emphasis on personal combat as opposed to impersonal war between States – Myatt’s criticism (i) of German National Socialism (predicated as it was on a powerful State and on kampf) and (ii) of Adolf Hitler, may well be valid since all “in Time” States and Empires and armies are, in the perspective of centuries, transitory, and since all leaders, however gifted and charismatic, are fallible and inevitably make mistakes and often commit the error of hubris. Was, for example, Hitler’s invasion of Russia a strategic mistake that inevitably led to the destruction of the Third Reich?

° That Myatt’s latest writings – such as his Classical Paganism And The Christian Ethos and his Tu Es Diaboli Ianua – as well as his translations of classical ancient texts such as Sophocles and Aeschylus and his Corpus Hermeticum: Eight Tractates expound the pagan ethos that formed the genesis of our Western “Faustian” civilization.

Thus we consider Myatt as migrating – due to his pathei mathos – from an “in time” activist and ideologue to an “above time” philosopher and mystic. As Savitri Devi wrote in her Lightning And Sun:

“But there are also men ‘outside Time’ or rather ‘above Time’; men who live, here and now, in eternity; who (directly at least) have no part to play in the downward rush of history towards disintegration and death, but who behold it from above – as one beholds, from a strong and safe bridge, the irresistible rush of a waterfall into the abyss – and who have repudiated the law of violence which is the law of Time…..

But the salvation which the men ‘above Time’ offer the world is always that which consists in breaking the time-bondage. It is never that which would find its expression in collective life on earth in accordance with Golden Age ideals. It is the salvation of the individual soul, never that of organised society…..

Men ‘outside Time’ or ‘above Time,’ at the most saviours of souls, have, more often than not, disciples who are definitely men ‘against Time.’

No organisation can live ‘outside Time’ – ‘above Time’ – and hope to bring men back, one day, to the knowledge of the eternal, values. That, all men ‘above Time’ have realised. In order to establish, or even to try to establish, here and now, a better order, in accordance with Truth everlasting, one has to live, outwardly at least, like those who are still ‘in Time’; like them, one has to be violent, merciless, destructive – but for different ends.

Knowing this, the real men ‘above Time’ are the first ones to understand and to appreciate the wholehearted efforts of their disciples ‘against Time,’ however awful these might appear to ordinary people…. The fallen world can never understand them.”

Most people today apparently do not understand David Myatt, and perhaps never will. But we like to believe we do.

Those “in time” – like Genghis Khan – who concentrate on military might; those “above time” – like the Egyptian Pharaoh Akhenaten – who are otherworldly and mystic; and those “against time” – like Adolf Hitler – who are both “in time” and “above time”, both Lightning and Sun.

The Ignorant Vulgarians And Islam

odal3

The Ignorant Vulgarians And Islam

There are two things that I find of particular interest about David Myatt. The first thing is the range and the depth of his practical experience, which included thirty years experience of street-level often violent political activism, several years as a Christian monk, and ten years as a practising Muslim. The second thing is his erudition, evident as that erudition is in his familiarity with the culture – and especially the literature – of the West from the time of Homer to Cicero to TS Eliot and beyond. Having “fluency in the classical languages (Greek and Latin), as well as Arabic and possibly Persian” {1} he is thus erudite, a scholar, as those terms were understood by English speakers from before the time of Shakespeare to the time of Ralph Waldo Emerson.

When, therefore, he in his mature – post-2011 – years writes about ancient Greek culture, about Christianity, about the culture of the West, and about Islam, he is writing not only from personal experience but also as a scholar able to read primary sources – such as Homer, the New Testament, and the Koran – in their original language.

What Myatt in recent years has written about Islam and Muslims directly contradicts the anti-Muslim rhetoric of “the vulgarians”, such as The Master Vulgarian who currently occupies a position of power and influence in America and the hordes of minor, anti-Muslim, vulgarians who style themselves as defenders of ‘civilization’. {2}

Regarding such people Myatt asks:

“Have [they] read the Quran in Arabic? Have they studied the Sunnah – at the very least the collections of Bukhari and Muslim? Have they studied Al-Adab Al-Mufrad? Have they studied Islamic jurisprudence and discussed Shariah with a Qadi? How many conversations about Islam have they had with learned Imaams? Have they lived in a land where the majority of people are Muslim? How many times have they been guests of Muslim families and so shared meals and personal conversations and thus empathised with Muslims? How many Muslim women have they interviewed or asked about Hijab – about why they wear it and how it makes them feel?

If they have not done all those things then they are, in my view, fundamentally ignorant concerning Islam and the Muslim way of life, and thus they speak and write and demonstrate in public about what they personally are uneducated about and about those whom they have not personally interacted with in a courteous way. Thus their opinions, their views, are those of bigots, and their behaviour is uncivilized – that is, the behaviour of people who are unlearned, ill-informed, uncultured, uncourteous, hubriatic. They are also hypocritical, for these leaders and organizers – and those who bankroll them – are virulent in their praise of ‘Western civilization and Western values’ without, it seems to me, realizing that they themselves with their ignorance, their hubris, their intolerance, their prejudice – their bigotry – are excellent examples of the new barbarians assailing Western culture.” {3}

In another article he writes:

“My personal view of Islam, of the Muslim way of life, and which view I have expressed in recent correspondence with others, is a very positive and tolerant one; of respect born from experience, a scholarly study, and a comparative assessment with other religions and spiritual ways also personally experienced.

Perhaps the bad opinion many people in the West have of Islam would be changed if they spent time with Muslim families in places as diverse as Egypt, Somalia, Turkey, Morocco, Pakistan, Senegal, Malaysia, and Birmingham. Until they have, who are they to pass judgement on the Muslim way of life, and on the Quran, the Sunnah, and the Shariah, that inspires and informs that way of life?” {4}

National Socialism And Honour

Even during his time with Reichsfolk in the late 1990s Myatt was writing about the need to treat other races with honour and thus respect their way of life. In a letter to an imprisoned Comrade {5} dated JD2452013.275 (that is, 13 April 2001) and which letter he expanded into an article published under the title The Question of National-Socialism, Racism and Tolerance, {6} Myatt rhetorically asked important questions such as:

“Should we strive to attain our freedom through certain tactics, one of which is a fanatical intolerance? Is our situation that desperate that we should see those who uphold other ways of life – and those of other races – as our enemies? This is the means that has been mostly followed in the past fifty years or so, albeit that it has been followed and employed on a mostly instinctive level. This is the means of “racism”, whether called by that Zionist-invented term or not.

Or, should we strive to be idealistic, and follow the ethic of honour to its logical conclusion? This means that we always strive to do what is honourable, which means that we should strive to be both strong, yet tolerant in a warrior way: proud of our people, our culture, but accepting of other ways, other people, if those other people respect us.”

After considering the options, he concluded:

“I assert that what is good is what is beneficial to our folk, but also honourable, and that if something – some deed or action – benefits or may benefit our folk but is also dishonourable, then that deed or action is something which a National-Socialist should not do […]

We must use our own values of honour, of loyalty, of duty to the folk as the criteria, the standard, to judge what is right, what is wrong, and what is necessary. Furthermore, we must use these values to determine our own behaviour toward others. This is the National-Socialist way: the way of honour, of loyalty, of duty to our folk.

I firmly believe that we can return our people to their own way of life by setting them a personal example, and to do this we must be prepared to live by, and if necessary die for, our ideals of honour, loyalty and duty.”

His words seem even more relevant now as the vulgarians among us gain more and more influence.

{2} While The Master Vulgarian barks about “Islamic terrorism” he in his ignorance forgets – or ignores – two things. First, that America in the last twenty years has directly and indirectly (through its policies) killed far more civilians than all Muslim terrorists combined; directly, in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and indirectly in places like Yemen and Syria. Second, that it is not a question of “Islamic terrorism” – as if the religion of Islam is responsible – but rather of some individuals doing what is dishonourable and using something such as a religion as an excuse for their dishonourable deeds: see for example Extremism, Terrorism, Culture and Physis.
